| After suffering the political frustration and life of privation，Du Fu made a choice to move on and lived at Chengdu cottage. The Thatched Cottage provided not only a space for Du Fu to escape from the chaos caused by war, but also an ease and peaceful life for him to compensate for regrets in the reality. For Du Fu, dwelling at Thatched Cottage was forced by the objective situation, but he didn’t really want to live at the hermitage, which was why Du Fu held a contradictory attitude towards the Thatched Cottage life. Influenced by the Confucianism, a drifting life and dual personality made him difficult to position his emotion attribution. It is seems that he was happy and pleased with himself and enjoy the family happiness, but Du Fu couldn’t indulged himself in the nature with the mixed feeling and struggled with the pain of caring for the fate of his nation, experiencing homesickness and being dissatisfied with himself. The Thatched Cottage is not the Peach Blossom Source for Du Fu, but just a temporary agreeable garden for thinking, therefore, Du Fu’s spiritual dilemma was resourced from the contradictory mentality melancholy caused by homesick and dispelled by being full of emotion when facing the scene was not ultimately resolved when he lived at Thatched Cottage. |
